CHISIYA WRITERS TO FEATURE ON KUMUSHA KWEDU TV CHANNEL

The Chisiya Writers Club in Zvishavane takes its name from the amazing Chisiya Hill (above) that has fond memories for US-based writer and club founder Prof Emmanuel Sigauke

Chisiya Writers’ Club members in Mazvihwa will this year start to feature on the newly created YouTube TV channel Kumusha Kwedu.

The writers have been writing and posting their works on the Club's social media platforms but this time they will have a chance to record  their live dialogues, performances, get them edited and shared on Kumusha Kwedu TV.

This new development has brought excitement all over Chisiya authors and poets as it broadens their space to showcase their talents to the whole world.

One of the poets, Sifelani Horogoda, said he can't wait to feature his poetry live on Kumusha Kwedu TV.

"I can't wait to have my first ever poetry performance broadcasted live on our new TV channel. This is a great opportunity to show the world our talents. As rural artists we have been lagging behind, now it's our time to shine!" he said.

A unique rural writing workshop model hatched by US-based writer Prof Sigauke, Chisiya Writers' Club is also set to resume its activities which include writing workshops and contests. 

Chisiya will revive the Mototi Primary School writing contest which was disturbed by COVID-19 in 2020. Mototi is the school in Mazvihwa where the club founder Professor Emmanuel Sigauke discovered his writing talent. He intends to give back to his former school by launching a writing contest for Grade 6s and 7s under the theme ‘Bicycles’.

"We are planning to resume the writing contest at Mototi Primary School. Initially slated for December 2020, the contest was disturbed by COVID-19. Besides giving back to a school that gave me everything, this contest is also a special dedication to the late Ronald Sigauke who loved bicycles," said Professor Sigauke.

He added that after an informative workshop, a similar writing contest will be held at the neighboring secondary school, Gwavachemai.

"I did my Secondary at Gwavachemai Secondary School, It will be great if Chisiya start with a writing Workshop at Gwavachemai and then we introduce a similar writing contest there," said Professor Sigauke.

Chisiya Writers' Club is a rural writing model workshop launched in Mazvihwa in 2015. The initiative has grown over the years and it is now home to more than 500 writers.
